Langmuir Circulation

Basically, Langmuir Circulation are visible in those little streaks of bubbles or floating material that collect on the top of ocean surfaces. The formation was first discovered in 1938 by Irving Langmuir. Basically, two adjoining cells of water rotate in opposite directions, forming converging bands of water where bubbles and floating material meet. They are associated with upwelling regions of the ocean. As the diagram shows, floatsam(ocean debris) and bubbles collect at these location.
